Half-Masting Flag Notification: Lapu Lapu Festival Tragedy

Our school community joins others across the province in mourning the tragic events that took place during the Lapu Lapu Block Party in Vancouver on April 26. We send our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and everyone affected. As a mark of respect, flags at all Sea to Sky School District sites will be lowered to half-mast until further notice, as outlined in the provincial policy. A Message of Support Following the Lapu Lapu Festival Tragedy

We at Sea to Sky Schools are deeply saddened by the tragic events at the Lapu-Lapu Festival — an important gathering that celebrates family, culture, and community.

We are thinking of the Filipino-Canadian community and all those who have been affected by this devastating event. Our school counsellors, district staff, and school-based teams are available to provide support to students, staff, and families who may be impacted.

The safety, care, and well-being of our learning community remain our highest priorities. In this difficult time, we offer our heartfelt support and stand alongside all those who are grieving.

Creating a Substance Use Prevention Plan Webinar for Parents

The ministry with Dr. Hayley Watson, adolescent clinical psychologist from Open Parachute is hosting three, free virtual sessions for parents, guardians and caregivers on creating a personalized step-by-step plan for implementing substance use prevention skills in their home. Participants are required to register in advance for one of the sessions on April 29, May 7 or May 8 from 6:00-7:30 pm PDT. Register by clicking on the headline.

Welcome to Howe Sound Secondary. We are a vibrant school community learning together on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh nation. At our school we believe that diversity is a strength and inclusion is a right and we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel they belong. Our goal as a school is to ensure that all of our students graduate with dignity, purpose and options.

We have a great diversity of programs at HSS. We offer students the opportunity to graduate with a Double Dogwood diploma in French Immersion. We also offer dual-credit courses in partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Level 1 Carpentry & Electrical) and Vancouver Community College (Professional Cook 1). Our art programs, both visual and performing, provide students with an opportunity to be creative and our athletics teams have had great success against some very competitive schools. Our Outdoor Education program is an opportunity for students to experience new adventures outdoors, learn new skills, and discover their individual strengths. We also engage with community partners to provide learning experiences within the community such as our school farm which also supports our Farm and Community Leadership program.

We are committed to providing a safe, high-quality learning experience focused on the individual needs of each student. We strive to empower our students to become creative problem-solvers, critical and innovative thinkers, and inspired learners ready to thrive in their post-secondary endeavours. 
 
Continued parent engagement is critical through the grad program years and we encourage parents to actively communicate with staff, attend school functions and learning opportunities as well as attend Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings when possible.
